Wildly fun Fancy Dress Swim
By churchinoceanpark

Our Fancy Dress Swim to Make Poverty History on Sunday, July 13, was fabulous! We had a great time with each other in our fancy attire on the beach and in the waves with warmer water than usual as we brought attention to the ONE Campaign and the Millennium Development Goals. Margaret Molloy, photographer with the Santa Monica Mirror, photographed us. We’ll have a link to her photos and any story when available. David Acevedo came and filmed us even though being rear-ended on the way totaled his car (glad you are okay)(film link when available). That’s dedication! Fran Lyness, who was both support and participant also took photos that you can view at www.flickr.com/photos/herleyim. In addition to collecting some signatures on the ONE Declaration we also distributed flyers explaining what we were doing and listing our upcoming ONE Santa Monica events.
Other thank yous to: Ashley Muncaster, who brought David to the beach after the accident and was part of the Fancy Swim team; Brandy Jones and David Tayar, our film people who arranged for David Acevedo to film us; other members of the fabulous Fancy Dress Swim team led by Rev. Janet, including Marlene De La O, Susan and Matilda Loughmiller, Wendy and Lucca Jazz Winston, Gaile Price, Woody Bronner, Patience and John Brennan, Herley Jim Bowling, and Maribeth Dougherty and John; and our dedicated support team including Mary Getlein and Fred Whitlock.
Nothing like being on the beach on a sunny day with people you love, doing good by playing, dancing in the waves in a fancy dress with the skirt swirling around like kelp or sea foam, and watching the sailboats and pelicans go by. No dolphins this time.
