Join the ONE LA/Santa Monica Fancy Dress Swim

January 20, 2008

Ready to have fun while saving lives? Church in Ocean Park has initiated the ONE LA/Santa Monica Fancy Dress Swim joining the World Swim Against Malaria on April 5, 12-2 PM, at the Culver City Municipal Plunge. The goal is one million swimmers around the world on or around that day raising money for treated bed-nets at $5 per net to prevent malaria, still the biggest killer of children and pregnant women in the world. Every $5 helps save a life.

Unlike swims that get sponsors for a number of laps or distance we are getting sponsors for the spectacle of going in the (heated) pool in fancy dress (including, for inspiration but not to limit your imagination or costume, formals, prom dresses, cocktail dresses, bridesmaid dresses, wedding gowns, quinceanera gowns, fancy ball gowns…). If you don’t get sponsors beforehand you can just show up on April 5 and sponsor yourself. Guys and girls can wear dresses or whatever captures your fancy. This is a swim for all ages so just make sure your costume is family-friendly. Join us!

You can sign up for the swim by going to: http://www.one.org/event/GeneralEvent/369. Just follow the instructions to sign up. You can also sponsor one of our fancy swimmers or the group online at www.worldswimagainstmalaria.com/churchop, or by calling 310-399-1630.

* To sponsor by check rather than cash or online, make payable to Against Malaria Foundation. Please add reference WSAM08 3597 so the money can be assigned to our swim.
